WHO WILL DOMINATE CHINA'S RETAIL MARKETS ? : THE CHOICES ARE AS VARIED AS THERE ARE CHINESE

China is the fastest-growing big retail market, and may one day be the biggest. Foreign chains such as Carrefour, Walmart and Tesco are piling in.  Yet neither they nor any of their local rivals comes close to dominating China the way Walmart dominates the supermarket business in America.
 The biggest chain, Shanghai Bailian, has only 11% of the market and barely registers outside its home region.
A comparison of Walmart’s Chinese operations with those of Wumart, a Beijing-based chain, is illuminating.  Wumart is cheaper—hence that heap of raw chickens.  Walmart is considered more fancy, a fact that may surprise American shoppers.  Its stores are well-lit and spotlessly clean.  Its wares are safe, reliable and tastefully displayed, though they differ somewhat from those on offer in Arkansas.

WILL LAST SEASON'S ( 2010 ) CONFLICT BETWEEN IRAN & PAKISTAN CARRY OVER INTO 2011 ?

ISLAMABAD - Iran may impose restrictions on the import of Pakistani mangoes, in case the Pakistani exporters continue to violate the set rules and regulations, it has been learnt.

A Mango Promotion event was organised jointly by Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Company, Ministry of Commerce Government of Pakistan and M/s Durrani Associates Karachi under the guidance of Embassy of Pakistan at Tehran on June 7.

Sources informed that Dr. Muhammad Saeed Khan Jadoon, Commercial Counsellor in Embassy of Pakistan welcomed the participants and briefed them about the objectives of the event. 


A large number of concerned people including government officials from the Ministry of Agriculture Iran, Customs Department, Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Mines, Association of Fruits and Vegetables Importers, UniFuiti and several importers participated in that mango promotion event.
