U.S. Helps Pakistani Mango Farmers Boost Exports

Working in partnership with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Hyder Shah Fruit Farm in Sindh has installed Pakistan's first automated mango processing line on a farm. As a result of this partnership, the farm delivered 150,000 kilograms of processed mangos to the Middle East and earned more than four million rupees in profit.



“I hope my success will encourage other Pakistani mango farmers to complete their infrastructure developments so they can compete in the international mango market,” said Junaid Hyder Shah, owner of Hyder Shah Farm. “I could not have achieved this without USAID support.”



This initiative is part of the U.S. Government's commitment to help Pakistan improve its economic growth.

Pakistani mangoes enter Japan market

ISLAMABAD: The entry of Pakistan mangoes in Japanese market has become a reality following successful passage of Japanese quarantine requirements as the first consignment was cleared on 17 July 2011, which comprised mangoes gifts from the President of Pakistan to Japanese dignitaries.



Export of Pakistani mangoes to Japan was raised by the former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto during her visit to Japan in 1996, says a statement issued here today.


After fulfilling Japanese quarantine and quality standards, Pakistani mangoes were permitted for export to the Japanese market prior to President Zardari’s visit to Japan in February 2011.

Import of two varieties of Pakistani mango - Chaunsa and Sindhri – has been permitted into the Japanese market.

Commercial export of Pakistani mangoes to Japan will begin next year.

Japan plans to import mangoes from Pakistan next year


ISLAMABAD: Official sources have indicated that Japan plans to import Pakistani mangoes from next year and has shown keen interest in investing in the country’s dairy and horticulture sectors.


An eight-member delegation of the Japan Agriculture Association (JA) group led by its Vice Chairman Yasuhiro Nakagawa held meetings with the Agriculture Minister Nazar M Gondal and officials of Board of Investment (BOI) here on Monday.

According to official sources, JA delegation was visiting to explore avenues for investment, especially in the fields of mangoes processing, dairy, livestock and citrus fruits.

The group has also made substantial investments in agriculture sector in China and Australia and evinced great interest in emulating a similar project for Pakistan.

México: Exportan productores de Sinaloa 26 mil 130 toneladas de mango

Durante la actual temporada de mango, al cosecharse el 25 por ciento de la superficie sembrada, se alcanza una producción de 48 mil 46 toneladas de las cuales se han exportado 26 mil 130 a diferentes destinos.



La cosecha de mango inició a finales de mayo pasado en la zona sur del estado y actualmente está generalizada en todo el estado con un avance importante, apuntó el delegado de la Secretaría de Agricultura federal, Gonzalo Calderón Flores.



El titular de la Secretaría de Agricultura, Ganadería, Desarrollo Rural, Pesca y Alimentación (Sagarpa) dio a conocer que en la zona sur se sembró en 20 mil 850 hectáreas y ya se cosechó en 6 mil 282, con una producción de 47 mil 112 toneladas.

Pakistani mangoes reach Japanese markets




TOKYO, Jul 23 (APP): Pakistan has successfully managed to export its traditional mangoes to Japanese market and a special ceremony was held here to introduce these mangoes to the Japanese.





According to reports, from Tokyo, Tariq Puri, Chairman Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), who is currently visiting Japan addressing a gathering to introduce Pakistani mangoes said it was possible due to the cooperation and assistance of Japanese government that Pakistan exported mangoes to Japanese market.



He informed the audience that they will be the first Japanese who will taste Pakistani mangoes. “I am sure Japanese people will enjoy aroma and sweetness of Pakistani mangoes.” he said.



The Japanese present on this occasion were served with Pakistani mango juices and traditional drink, ‘Lasi’.
