AUSTRALIAN BUILDER FINDS IT HARD TO FOCUS ON MANGO HARVEST...

ABC Rural Report

Rural Report for Northern WA: Tuesday October 11th 2011

By Matt Brann, Kununurra

Picking mangoes during the Derby boom

On today's program we spoke to Derby builder/mango grower Alan Archer, who says he's struggled to find time to pick this year's crop.

"We shouldn't be here, we should be out building," he said.

"Our turnover has doubled this year compared to last, which has made it very difficult to run an orchard and a building company at the same time,

"There's a huge demand on the rental market in town, which has put builders at a premium to build new houses, which is good for me, but not so good for the mango orchard."

The interview with Alan Archer is available on today's Rural podcast.
