A VERY EARLY HARVEST OF ALPHONSO FETCHES PREMIUM IN MUMBAI, INDIA ...

Alphonso to cost cheaper in 2012

By: Saurabh Katkurwar

 Date: 2012-01-15 Place: Mumbai

The Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) market received its first yield of Alphonso mangoes last week. Each carton was sold for a whopping Rs 10,000 each -- 10 times the price a carton fetches in peak season (March to June).

Sakharam Pansare, a trader at APMC market said, "We received two cartons of the first yield of Alphonso mangoes from a farmer in the Konkan belt on Thursday which were bought by a retailer. Last year we sold the first yield carton for Rs 8,000."

This doesn't imply that you will spend an exorbitant amount to eat Alphonso mangoes this year. "The first yield of mangoes costs a lot because gifting Alphonso mangoes, especially when there is no supply in the market, is a trend. The rates will go down in February as the supply becomes regular," said Vijay Dhobale, a mango grower.

"Last year, mangoes were priced between Rs1,000 to 1,500 per carton in M…

A QUE JUEGA CHAVEZ?: CUENTAS O CUENTOS ?

8 horas y media

CHILE LAUNCHES MAJOR PROMOTION UNDER ONE LABEL ...

New identity for Chile's fruit industry

Carl Collen | 09 January 2012

New branding strategy emphasises the importance of the country's workforce in its rise to becoming a world fresh fruit leader

Multinational advertising agency BBDO’s Santiago office was recently commissioned to create a new identity for the Chilean fruit industry and its various sub-sectors.

Under the brand ‘Fruits from Chile – the pride of our land’, the industry will communicate key messages emanating from extensive global research that found stakeholders value the people who cultivate the land as integral to the success of Chile as an exporter.

Ronald Bown, chairman of the board of the Chilean Exporters Association (Asoex), says that transforming this factor into a point of reference for the international market would allow the country to differentiate its fruit industry in a way that none of its competitors had been able to previously. Chile possesses a large group of people to whom the fruit industry is seco…

Leading grocers Metro, Edeka and Rewe claim they are meeting standards with Ecuador banana suppliers

Several of Germany’s largest grocery retail groups have rejected claims made by Oxfam of violations of workers’ rights in the Ecuador banana industry, arguing that “all relevant standards” are demanded from suppliers.

In its ‘Bitter Bananas’ report, Oxfam Germany heavily criticised the five leading food retail operators in the country – Edeka, Rewe, Aldi, Lidl and Metro – claiming it had uncovered “massive violations” of labour rights at Ecuadorian banana plantations supplying the companies.

Suppliers singled out for criticism included US multinational Dole, as well as major Ecuadorian banana exporters Noboa and Reybanpac.

In the study, the charity accused the German retailers of appearing to be only interested in the good quality and price of the products, but not in the social and environmental aspects of banana pr…

PRODUCE NEWS WEB SITE AIMS TO PUT ALL PRODUCE NEWS SITES UNDER ONE ROOF....

There is a new website out there.

The idea seems great. Just one problem, unless one is a subscriber to the sites mentioned on the page, one cannot access the news.

I dont think that the pay per view news sites are to crazy about it either.

IMO BLOG doesn't have a problem with sharing content.

The premium channels will need to get on board though.

The site looks very nice.

I think it is run by www.produceuniverse.com.

Check it out......

Hyperthyroidism is a condition where the thyroid gland in your neck makes an excess amount of the hormone thyroxine; this may speed up your metabolism, resulting in sudden weight loss, irritability and rapid heartbeat. Traditional treatment includes anti-thyroid medications to suppress excess hormone production or surgery. However, diet may also affect your experience with hyperthyroidism.
Mangoes may be beneficial for hyperthyroidism due to their vitamin and mineral content.

DIET

Hyperthyroidism can cause significant weight loss because when your metabolism speeds up, you burn more calories. Thyroid treatment slows down the metabolism, which may contribute to significant weight gain.
