MARKETING PIONEER OF ONLINE MANGO SALES IN INDIA .....

Man Behind

Prakash Bang, 54, marketing professional, in 1990 pioneered the concept of gift packing and door delivering premium Alphonso mangoes- under his own brand, Bangoes- throughout India and many parts of the world.

Obsessed with quality, his hunt for ideal mango orchards ended in sleepy little villages in Devgadh & Ratnagiri in the State of Maharashtra that are known to produce the finest quality of the Alphonso variety.

Later Prakash introduced the Kesar variety of mangoes that are best harvested in State of Gujarat.

Since then, his famed mangoes have mesmerized thousands of homes throughout the world.

Not limiting his services to premium mangoes, in the harvest of 2004 Prakash introduced Anara and Capps- premium juicy pomegranates and wickedly sweet custard apples that are harvested with great care in and around districts of Pune.

And now, he associates with the finest citrus growers in Florida, USA, which entitles his customers to send world's finest juicy oranges and gra…

FUTURE OF EU DRIVES DEBATE AT DAVOS ...

Davos doubts center on EU, world economy
by Staff Writers
Davos, Switzerland (UPI) Jan 27, 2012

High-powered talks at the World Economic Forum in the scenic Swiss resort of Davos have failed to dispel anxieties and gloom over the future of global economy and immediate and pressing concerns in Europe over the fate of the EU and the eurozone.

Senior economists differed on whether a hairline global recovery could be around the corner but, in comments, agreed that Europe, including countries outside the EU, faced unforeseeable risks over debt-ridden economies teetering on default, ratings downgrades and resulting political turmoil.

Most of the optimism over the global economy was rooted in U.S. data -- not European reports. The U.S. economy grew in the final three months of 2011 at an annualized rate of 2.8 percent.

The U.S. Commerce Department figures gave participants hope the trans-Atlantic trend could rub off on Europe somehow. At present, though, European outlook is grim. The total number …

CHINESE STUDY SHOWS THAT THERE ARE MORE THAN FOUR SEASONS IN A YEAR ...

Climatic warming-induced change in timings of 24 seasonal divisions in China since 1960

Beijing, China (SPX) Jan 30, 2012

This graph shows the cliimatological mean seasonal cycles in China during the 1960s (blue line) and a more recent decade (red line). Dashed lines indicate temperature thresholds for the 24 Solar Terms. From Qian et al., 2012 Chinese Sci. Bull. Credit: Science China Press

The Twenty-four Solar Terms are ancient Chinese terms used for about 2000 years. They describe 24 stages or timings associated with seasonal changes in phenology and agricultural activity throughout a year. Qian et al. from the Key Laboratory of Regional Climate-Environment for East Asia, Chinese Academy of Sciences, quantitatively defined the somewhat 'astronomic' term for the first time, based on modern temperature records.

This facilitated an investigationof changes in the climatic Solar Terms under global warming over the past half-century. Their results were based on a rec…

INDIA - ISRAEL COOPERATION CONTINUES ON MANGOES ...

MUMBAI: Israel will set up three Centres of Excellence (CoEs) in Maharashtra, which will focus on production of citrus fruit, pomegranate and mango.

"The first centre will be set up in Nagpur for citrus, second one at Rahuri in Ahmednagar district for pomegranate and another at Dapoli in Konkan region for mangoes," Israel Consul General Orna Sagiv told reporters here.

They are part of the 27 such centres, planned under an Indo-Israel initiative, being set up in seven states where farmers will be taught about advanced farm technologies.

Each CoE will be connected to the respective state's Agriculture Ministry, agricultural universities and research centres. Applied research, and not mere theory, will be the focus of these high-tech facilities.

"At these centres, we will basically train the trainers. We cannot train every farmer but we can train the trainers and hopefully it will get to the farmers," she said.

"We started with Haryana last year (a centre for …
