IMO BLOG (Mango World Magazine) RUNS CIRCLES AROUND NMB WEB SITE ...

Thank-you very much for making the IMO BLOG (Mango World Magazine), the World's number one website for mango industry news and information!!! ...

With the May numbers for the IMO BLOG (Mango World Magazine) about to be released, it would appear that the IMO BLOG viewership is running 5-7 times (on a monthly basis) that of the National Mango Board's website: www.mango.org.

With approximately 350,000 pageviews for the IMO BLOG since January 2012 through May 2012, the popularity of the IMO's website is running circles around the NMB website.

Just goes to show you what one man with a very limited personal budget can do to a multi-million dollar budget and a corporate staff when you set your mind to the task!

AUSTRALIA: CARBON TAX WILL PUT A DENT IN MANGO GROWER'S PROFITS ...

Mango growers fear carbon costs

By Liz Trevaskis

Thursday, 31/05/2012

The Northern Territory Mango Industry Association says the cost of production will rise significantly for farmers when the carbon tax is implemented.

Under the Federal Government's carbon pricing legislation, which will come into effect on July 1, the cost of electricity and chemicals are expected to increase.

Chair Ian Baker says producers are predicting prices to increase by over three per cent, which for large mango farms could equate to $30,000.

"The problem is, is that $30,000 come straight off our profit.

"And I can't, I'm not gonna get compensation as a farmer.

"I can't pass the cost onto the consumers, who do get some compensation.

"Because we operate in a free market, where I don't set my price I'm basically a price taker, to a large degree."

FAIRCHILD TROPICAL BOTANICAL GARDENS PREPARES FOR INTERNATIONAL MANGO FESTIVAL # 20 ....

The Mangos of Fairchild: Evolution, Celebrating 20 Years of the Mango.

It began over twenty years ago with an idea―a seed―planted in the fertile ground of Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden; a celebration of the mango beneath the shade of the very mango trees collected a century earlier by Dr. David Fairchild.

Twenty fruiting seasons have passed, and we continue to celebrate, collect and curate, teach and learn about the mango.

This July 13, 14 and 15 join us for the International Mango Festival: Evolution, Celebrating 20 Years of the Mango

¿La hora final de Chávez?

Venezuela

Jue, 12/04/2012 - 18:40

FOR THE LOVE OF MANGOES: A visit to Borneo

Borneo Expedition

Fri, Apr 20, 2012 at 01:07:41 PM

By Noris Ledesma

My first glimpse into the primeval land of Limbang, Sarawak, Malaysia; its people, and ultimately the wild mangos of Borneo, woke up the hidden memories from my past in the Colombian Amazonian. The heat and the humidity made everything so green and exuberant. I was still jet-lagged from my travels, when I came to my senses within this foreign, yet hauntingly familiar landscape. The different shapes and textures of the leaves and fronds brought me back to the realization that I was indeed in the tropics, just in a different place and time.

Wild mangos (Mangifera species)

I had to come to Borneo to better understand the origin of mango by first-hand observation of its wild relatives that grow in the jungles of Southeast Asia. Further I wanted to delve into the Bornean jungle from a fruit perspective, where durian, langsat, rambutan and of course wild mangos share the same territory. The expedition to Borneo offered the oppor…

Nicaragua 'Armed Groups' Raise Specter of Contra Warfare

Written by Elyssa Pachico

In Nicaragua, a shadowy organization claims to have launched a successful attack against the security forces as part of their crusade against President Daniel Ortega, whose government denies that the group are any more than countryside bandits.

Where does the truth lie?

The group, which calls itself the Democratic Command Front 3-80, claims it attacked a group of police on May 3 in Nicaragua's northern Jinotega department, seriously wounding two officers and causing the police to flee. The security forces contested this, stating that the attack was in fact launched on eight civilians, all part of a single family, in a different part of the country. The military confirmed that six men, wearing military uniform and armed with AK-47s, carried out this attack, but described them as cattle rustlers.

MEXICO MANGO MAFIA: Sinaloa cartel, Zetas push Mexico's drug violence to new depths ...

MEXICO UNDER SIEGE

In turf war, the brutal Zetas bring their horrific methods to areas accustomed to the more businesslike Sinaloa cartel, deepening fear and uncertainty.

CULIACAN, Mexico — The cartel henchman nicknamed "El Loco" was reported behind the latest atrocity in Mexico's ever-more-depraved drug war: mutilating 49 people and piling their bodies — heads, hands and feet missing — by the side of a road leading to the U.S. border.

Authorities say he acted this month on orders from the top commanders of the brutal Zeta paramilitary force, who wanted to send a message to the long-dominant Sinaloa cartel and its allies, in a new phase of a conflict that has claimed more than 50,000 lives in less than six years.

In Mexico's eight most violent states, the battle has essentially boiled down to a no-holds-barred fight bet…

China-Peru military ties growing stronger ...

By Kelly Hearn - Special to The Washington Times

Sunday, May 27, 2012

LIMA, Peru — Trade between China and Peru, a key U.S. ally in the regional drug war, is at an all-time high. Now the Chinese security apparatus is getting in on the action.

Military officials from Beijing increasingly are making high-level visits, pushing initiatives to protect Chinese nationals and companies here, and, in some cases, undermining U.S. arms deals in order to sell their own weapons to this resource-rich Andean nation.

Last month, for example, the Peruvian Defense Ministry canceled a $114 million contract with a consortium that included U.S. defense manufacturer Northrop Grumman after a Chinese company convinced officials the project did not meet technical specifications.

Peruvian officials in February awarded the contract to the TRIAD consortium consisting of Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, thePolish Bumar Group and Northrop Group to provide an air defense system.

OP ED: Neither Obama nor Romney has a comprehensive plan, but there's still time ...

OP-ED
It's the fiscal future, candidates

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, left, and President Obama should devote at least one of their debates this fall solely to the nation's fiscal situation, with a format and moderators that will guarantee that substantive questions are posed and that the candidates are pressed for meaningful answers. Barack Obama and Mitt Romney are both smart and accomplished individuals. That's why it is so disappointing that neither candidate has taken a truly responsible position when it comes to the nation's fiscal future.

That's not to say that both men haven't advanced some good ideas. Romney, for example, is pushing to limit federal spending, and he's showing political backbone in putting Social Security and Medicare reforms on the table.

But Romney also signed the Americans for Tax Reform pledge to
