GOOD LIFE : The Top Vacation Playgrounds Of The World's Super-Rich

JULIE ZEVELOFF

OCT. 11, 2013, 12:58 PM

France's Côte d’Azur is the most popular "leisure enclave" for the world's super-rich, according to a new report from Savills.

A typical 5-bedroom home in the Côte d’Azur, or French Riviera, now costs more than $28.5 million, Savills found.

It ranked the exclusive enclaves, where the world's wealthiest people are likely to buy additional homes, by looking at four factors: the average price of prime residential property, the highest prices for luxury hotel suites, global appeal, and exclusivity among the elite.

Here are the top 20 residential enclaves for ultra-high-net-worth individuals (defined as those with $30 million or more in assets), according to the report, which was co-produced with Candy & Candy and Deutche Asset Wealth & Management:

The report also looked at where the super-rich from different regions are most likely to buy vacation homes.

THE MOST AT-RISK FOODS DURING THE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

KITCHEN DAILY 10/9/13

With the recent government shutdown, many government-funded organizations have either closed down entirely or are operating with fewer employees.

The Food And Drug Administration (FDA), which monitors food inspections of imports and packaged foods, is currently operating with 626 investigators

They are in charge or keeping approximately 80 percent of America's food supply safe from contamination.

FDA spokesman Steven Immergut said there would be delays in imported food inspections due to the shutdown, but that the FDA would still issue red alerts for major outbreaks.

Since the FDA’s food monitoring is not at its strongest due to the shutdown, we’ve gathered some potentially risky items that might be overlooked.

Check out the slideshow above for foods the FDA has flagged with a history of contamination.

HEAVY LIFTING : COSTA CONCORDIA WILL BE "TRANSPORTED" TO BREAKER'S YARD ...

Published: 10 October 2013

Dockwise awarded COSTA CONCORDIA contract

Following the successful rightening last month of the wreck off Giglio Island by the coast of Italy - described as the world's biggest ever salvage operation - Dockwise has been awarded the contract to transport the vessel to the breaker's yard

Originally it was supposed that the COSTA CONCORDIA would be towed to the dismantlers, but the Italian authorities deemed that would be too risky.

According to the ship2shore.it online newsletters, Dockwise, now a Boskalis affiliate, has been awarded a contract worth around €22M to load and transport the wreck to the breaker's yard.

The latest Semisubmersible Dockwise transport vessel “Vanguard” could load the whole wreck and ship it efficiently to any scrapyard in the world.

CIVIL WAR : THIS WEEKEND WILL BE A TURNING POINT FOR USA ..

The Next Three Days In D.C.

October 11, 2013

UPI

There may be some interesting activity in and around the Washington, D.C., cesspool this weekend.

First, a “Truckers To Shut Down America”protest is scheduled for this morning. Truckers say they will use their rigs to clog Interstate 495, the inner beltway loop around the capital city, in order to highlight their displeasure with Congress and the Barack Obama regime. Cars marked with the acronym T2DA will be allowed to pass.

There were also threats of citizen arrests against Obama and members of Congress, but organizers have backed off those threats. News reports claim 10,000 or more trucks are expected to participate.

But RedState is reporting that Department of Transportation sources are saying Obama plans to call out the National Guard and shut down the interstates in and around D.C. in advance of the truckers’ arrival. The shutdown will be justified because “the federal government is now closed because of the crazy House…

Rigging currency markets : The FX is in

Are foreign-exchange benchmarks the latest to be manipulated by bankers?

Oct 12th 2013

|From the print edition

She may have been robbed

IT HAS been a dreadful couple of years for financial benchmarks.

Banks turn out to have rigged LIBOR, an interest rate used to peg contracts worth trillions.

Its equivalent in the world of derivatives, ISDAfix, has also come under question.

Commodities prices from crude oil to platinum have been the subject of allegations and inquiries.

Now prices in global currency markets, where turnover is $5 trillion a day, are being scrutinised by authorities, who suspect bankers have tampered with those too.

Switzerland’s financial watchdog announced on October 4th that it was investigating a slew of banks it thinks have manipulated currencies.

Britain and the European Union also have probes under way.

None has detailed its suspicions, but concerns reportedly centre around abnormal movements ahead of a widely-used daily snapshot of exchange rates, known as the 4pm “…

GUAPA PERO BRUTICA : ¿Qué tienen en común Hugo Chávez y la nueva Miss Venezuela? (Imagen)
