LIFE AFTER CARGO : Australia's Largest Cargotecture House is a Modern Masterpiece Built from 31 Shipping Containers

by Lucy Wang, 04/03/14

Todd Miller of ZieglerBuild built this beautiful modern home out of 31 stacked shipping containers.

Located just five miles outside Brisbane, Queensland, this three-story upcycled residence is the largest shipping container house of its kind in Australia.

This stunning and highly detailed house mixes clean lines and strategically glazed walls with the shipping containers’ corrugated metal facade to achieve an industrial chic effect.

Miller superbly combines textures to create a rich sense of depth in the house’s facade. In the front of the house, the corrugated steel of the shipping containers are juxtaposed against warm wood detailing, cool metal lines, and glazed openings.

Striking graffiti art covers the back of the house and adds a dynamic pop of color to the white containers. A saltwater pool and deck are situated around the corner from the graffiti-covered facade.

NEWSFLASH: Saltchuk to buy Tropical Shipping

Saltchuk Resources said it will acquire Tropical Shipping, a company that operates ships between the U.S. and Canada and the islands in the Caribbean and Bahamas, from AGL Resources, an Atlanta-based natural gas utility holding company.

AGL Resources did not say what the sale price was, but said, "after-tax cash proceeds and repatriated cash from the transaction are expected to be approximately $220 million, subject to certain defined post-closing adjustments."

Saltchuk is the parent company of several other transportation companies, including the U.S.-flag carriers Sea Star Line, which moves freight between the U.S. mainland and Puerto Rico; and Totem Ocean Trailer Express, which operates between Tacoma, Washington, and Anchorage, Alaska.
