¡EXPLOSIVO!

CAMBODIA : Ministry Promotes Mango Exports to South Korea

Khmer Times/Sok Chan
Tuesday, 08 December 2015

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with South Korea’s Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency to develop a plan to export Cambodian mangos to Korea.

Hean Vanhorn, deputy director general of the ministry, said the agreement will open the gates for Cambodian exports to South Korea, as the government is seeking a market for the private sector and for farmers.

He said that now the government is calling for all relevant companies to be ready to supply their mangos to buyers.

Mr. Vanhorn added that South Korea currently can order an unlimited amount of mangos from Cambodia but under the agreement suppliers will improve processing facilities and employ a steaming mechanism to prevent insects before exporting.

“The demand from Korea is to keep the mango hygienic and healthy without insects, and this is the biggest obstacle that we face,”  he said.

“Mango farm owners must understand th…

The World Trade Organization’s (WTO) announced yesterday the authorization of $1 billion in retaliatory tariffs by Canada and Mexico over U.S. Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) requirements.

“NASDA urges Congress to swiftly repeal mandatory COOL requirements to ensure ongoing access—without harmful retaliatory tariffs—for U.S. agricultural producers to two of their most important export markets,”
said NASDA CEO Dr. Barbara P. Glenn.

In a letter to the Senate last month, NASDA asked Congress to repeal mandatory COOL requirements.

Canada and Mexico could impose retaliatory measures as early as December 18.

Malaysia Is Hunting For Mystery Owner Who Abandoned Three Boeing 747 On Its Airport

Submitted by Tyler Durden on 12/08/2015 17:47 -0500

One year ago, someone quietly parked their three Boeing 747-200F (which as shown on the image below have no identifiable insignia) at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia and since then has decided - for reasons unknown - to forget all about them.

However, in the meantime, the airplanes have been raking up landing, parking and other charges and now the airport wants to not only find the owner, but to get paid.

Boeing no longer makes the 747-200, but the more modern 747-8 Freighter version is the company’s second-most expensive plane, with a list price of $379.1 million.

As CNN reports, officials from Malaysia Airports Holdings eager to clear the massive clutter and collect their unpaid invoices, took out ads in Malaysia's The Star and Sin Chew Daily newspapers asking for the owner to please come get their planes.

It has given the "mysterious" owner a 14-day ultimatum in which to collect his multi-ton "los…

AUSTRALIA : Nippers get messy at mango 'Mess-tival'

Summer officially returned on Sunday when Aussie Mangoes partnered with the North Bondi Nippers once again at the Annual Mango Mess-tival.

This year’s event, funded, organised and facilitated by Horticulture Innovation Australia (Hort Innovation) and Aussie Mangoes, saw thousands of Nippers get messy with mangoes.

The Prime Minister, the Hon. Malcolm Turnbull, joined Sunday’s event and experienced a surf club walk-through, showing his love of a Honey Gold mango.

It was the fourth year in a row the Mess-tival descended on Bondi Beach for another jam-packed event full of sun, sand, mangoes and mess.

Event fun included fast and furious eating competitions, Nipper beach activity and a demonstration by Boyd Arthur showing how to make a carved mango flower on a stick.

The event raised $15,500 this year for the North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club. A regular event on the summer calendar, Mess-tival has so far raised o…

A Northern Territory horticulturist has been named one of Australia's top 30 producers by Good Food magazine.

Chris Nathanael has been growing and developing new tropical produce at his orchard and nursery, Tropiculture Australia, in the Darwin rural area for more than 50 years.

He said receiving the title was an unexpected honour.

"It was about 25 years ago at a mango growers' meeting and we were told that only something like 15 per cent of Australians had ever eaten a mango and no-one knew what to do about it. I was so depressed."

"I was quite intrigued that we should get such an award but it was really great receiving it,"
Mr Nathanael said.
